About Us

The Old Hall Ely is a luxury Jacobean manor house, set in its own unique and historic estate of 3000 acres in the heart of Cambridgeshire

Our Story

The Old Hall was once owned by Oliver Cromwell’s Mother in the 1500’s and has a rumoured tunnel to Ely Cathedral.

In 1830 the Morbey family purchased the Cromwell Estate house from the Bagge family. Since then they have developed the estate into a productive arable farm.

In the present generation, Alison, and the late Anthony Morbey moved into the home in 1995, after they began renovations to make the house their family home.

After many years of family life with their four children living at The Old Hall, they diversified the house in 2010 into a 5-star gold Bed and Breakfast, offering the full package of luxury hotel stays, delicious dinners, and decadent afternoon tea.

The Old Hall Ely progressed into a luxury hotel and exclusive use wedding venue in 2012.

Alison, lovingly known as Mrs M by the team, remains head of the house, ensuring every guest feels at home during their stay and receives a warm welcome.

Antonia, Mrs M’s daughter,  now plays a key role in the day to day running of The Old Hall Ely, with both family members offering couples seeking the perfect venue a personal guided tour.
