Helen & Mike
Helen and Mike instantly knew The Old Hall Ely was the wedding venue for them, after visiting for a private show round.
23rd December 2023
A note from the Couple
We were both looking for that special somewhere for our very special day, both having been married before it wasn’t going to be a large wedding, a day only to be shared with close family, special friends, and a few work colleagues…unique and special to us.
The minute we entered the gates In June 2023 to view the Old Hall we knew it felt right, this was our venue, this is where we wanted to mark the start of our life together as a married couple, nowhere else would do or even came close.
We sat down with Antonia and look at dates available, she told us she had one date available on the 23rd of December 2023, we decided to run with, and we are so glad we did A Christmas party with a wedding ceremony thrown in the mix, it was magical!
To us the fact that it was a winter wedding made no difference regarding the weather, if the sun decided to bless us on the day, then that would be the icing on the cake, sure enough it did so we had the best of both worlds.
It truly was a magical day, there was not a problem from start to finish, everything run like clockwork and precision, all the staff were incredibly attentive which meant we could just get on with our day enjoying ourselves without a worry in the world.
The Wedding Day at The Old Hall Ely
Helen and Mike started their celebration at our exclusive use venue on the morning of their wedding day, with the bride getting ready in our Cromwell suite and enjoying a fruit and pastry platter with pink cava.
The ceremony was held in the orangery, overlooking Ely Cathedral and our stunning grounds on a crisp winter’s day. Helen’s Son Oliver and her brother Paul walked her down the aisle before the couple said their I do’s surrounded by their closest friends and family.
Onto the drink’s reception, Helen and Mike chose Rose Cava and Vilarnau white for their drinks and celebrated their marriage! Canapes of chipolatas glazed with honey and mustard, tempura prawns and salmon gravlax were a delicious treat for their guests before the party moved into our stunning marquee for the wedding breakfast.
The wedding breakfast was served, the couple decided on smoked chicken and ham ballontine, slow cooked beef, pimms sorbet as a palette cleanser and dark chocolate and raspberry delice for dessert. The Marquee was decorated with our tasteful Christmas decorations and some extra touches from the couple, which created a cosy, festive atmosphere for the celebration.
Speeches commenced and the cutting of the cake just before the couple took to our secret dancefloor for their first dance as a married couple! The party continued with dancing and festive fun until the delicious evening food was served consisting of slow roast pulled pork rolls and battered halloumi and chips. Last orders at the bar were made at 11.30pm and overnight guests retreated to their luxury bedrooms for a well needed rest! Photography by Neal Laver
