Historical Significance of The Morbey Room
The Morbey Room is named in honour of the Morbey family. In 1830, the Morbey family purchased the Cromwell Estate house from the Bagge family and developed it into a productive arable farm. In the present generation, Alison and the late Anthony Morbey moved into the home in 1995 and began renovations to make it their family home. After many years of family life with their four children, they diversified the house in 2010 into a 5-star gold Bed and Breakfast, offering luxury hotel stays, delicious dinners, and decadent afternoon tea. Alison, lovingly known as Mrs. M by the team, remains head of the house, ensuring every guest feels at home during their stay and receives a warm welcome. Antonia, Mrs. M’s daughter, now plays a key role in the day-to-day running of The Old Hall Ely.
All of our luxury rooms with Super King beds are full of character and have great views of our grounds. With a separate, spacious bathroom featuring both roll-top bath and stand-alone shower, enjoy maximum relaxation. The Morbey Room is named after our family that have owned the Old Hall since the 1830’s.
The room pricing includes a slice of our family recipe carrot cake, served with tea and coffee in our sitting room on arrival. All rooms at The Old Hall Ely have The White Company toiletries, a Dyson Pure hot & cool purifier fan heater, a Nespresso Capsule Machine and tea making station with English biscuits, a flat-screen television and 5-star quality bed linen.
